THE FIVE BIGGEST MISTAKES
There are five common misconceptions or assumptions that people make when coming to plan a gap year. And they can be crippling. So set yourself free and start getting excited! Here are the pitfalls to avoid.
1) Doesn't have to be a year.
A year is a long time, even at our age! And it can be daunting. So don't set yourself time limits. Go when you want and for as long as you want. Perhaps you want to go away for a few weeks at a time, with breaks in between? That's ok. There are not rules or limits to a grown up gap year - you can do whatever you want!

2) Doesn't have to involve travel or going around the world.
A year out doesn't have to mean a year away. Perhaps you want to learn a new skill; volunteer at a local organic farm; do a walking tour of Scotland. The main thing is that you work out what you want to do and then set about achieving it.

3) Don't worry about saving the world, save yourself.
It's very possible that you've got to a place in your life where you have some questions that need answering. You might be looking for a new direction. You might want to change careers. Whatever it is make sure that you are giving yourself the time that you need.
