Frequently asked questions
Everyone has questions. Get some answers here....and if you don't find what you're looking for, please call us.
I'm still not too sure what you do? What is a Career Break consultant?
A career break consultant is us! And there's no one like us. We don't sell holidays, or book tickets. We work with you before the booking stage, through a range of meetings and conversations, to help you decide what you want to do and where you want to go. We charge for our time, knowledge and expertise. Our service is unique, and bespoke to you, so the best thing if you still have questions is to call us - we're happy to explain anything about our services to you.
I’m 26, am I too young to get some help from you?
Of course not! Anyone planning a grown-up gap year or career break needs someone to talk to, who will listen to their ideas, concerns, questions and thoughts. It doesn't matter how old or young you are - it's more important how young or old you feel! Everyone needs some advice every now and again.
I might not be going for a year or so. Can you still help me?
You can go for as long or as short as you like. It's entirely up to you. In fact, these are exactly the things we'll work out together. Perhaps you want to do several different things and break them up to some shorter trips? Or you want to do exactly four months in one place? Or just be away for six weeks? Or live and work in another country for a year? It's up to you; and the possibilities are endless.
What does it cost?
The costs vary depending on what work we'll do together. But our services start at £195, which includes consultations, face to face meetings, listening, discussion, guidance, phone calls, email support, detailed analysis and action plans, extensive research and more. It seems a lot of money just to talk to someone.
What price peace of mind? You may know exactly what you want to do, in which case, this might not be for you. But if you are uncertain and toying between saving orang-utans in Borneo, teaching children in Puerto Rico, or trekking across the Himalayas then it's a good bet you're pretty confused! And that you need our help.
There's simply no point in spending a lot of money on volunteering or travelling if it's not what you want to do. The certainty of booking something exactly right for you surely outweighs the cost of working through your confusion and ascertaining what's right for you? Your trip and the time you spend on it is a big investment. The small sum you spend with us will have such a big impact on the satisfaction you receive. Look past the price to the results it delivers.
I’m not sure what I want to do, or where I want to go.
I know. That’s why I am here! And you'll have stacks of ideas as soon as we start talking! And that's the point. You might feel you want to get away, that you need some space, that you want to do something worthwhile. You may not even know that. You might just have itchy feet. Or be naturally nomadic. Whatever you are feeling, we make sense of it, and get you thinking about real possibilities, and how you can make them happen.
What if I want to travel with my family?
What a lovely idea! Such a great opportunity for children - a real way to see the world and get a whole new perspective. And there's lots of way you can do it. You can even do some volunteering as a family and the children become study buddies for the local school children. Click here for more information or call us to find out about the options available to you.
I’m scared of flying…
That only has to be an obstacle if you're choosing to make it one, for whatever reason. In our carbon-reducing climate there are many options and ways to travel without ever having to take to the air. Sea, rail, car, bike or even your own two legs! These are all things we can work out together. And if you really can't bear to fly there are also companies specifically trained to help you conquer that fear.
How can I trust you?
If you feel at the end of our consultations that you are not more informed or clear and that you have not received value for money then we offer a full, no quibble money back guarantee. You risk nothing yet stand to gain a really powerful assessment, and a sense of empowerment and clarity. Read what people have to say about the services that they have received from me.
I've got no one to go with.
This absolutely isn't something to be worried about. Travelling alone can be an enriching and empowering experience, and not half as scary as you think. We can work together on how you might manage, come up with some strategies for travelling alone, and look at some places where you can stay with friends to break up the journey. Or introduce you to some companies and websites that pair-up single travellers with likeminded people.
Isn’t this all just really indulgent and selfish?
Depends how much you value having clarity. This time off is hugely important. Look how far you've come already in making the decision to go. In considering such a big journey. Don't you deserve a little bit of expert support, from someone independent who knows what they're talking about and only has your best interests at heart? We're not worried about commission or sales, we just don't want you to abandon your dream.
I’m not ready to go away yet.
That's very often the case, but this is where our meetings have the most value and benefit. We'll help you work out where you are now, identify any fears you may have and help you ascertain what the next steps might be, and possibly put a potential date in the diary for you set off on your trip. There is no time to delay, especially at our age! Even if it's a year or so in the future. Everyone needs to have dreams.
